Canon del Rio is a delightful bed and breakfast in the tiny mountain town of Jemez Springs, New Mexico. The village is well off the beaten path but offers all the attractions of the National Forest, including hiking trails, fishing, and hot springs (both commercial and undeveloped) as well as historical sights. The inn is about a mile south of the center of town.

Their web site [--] gives a good overview of the property. There is an online availability page, but this is not updated in real time, so you may find that what you thought you had reserved online is not really available. I would definitely phone instead.

The inn sits on a beautiful five acre property along the river. There's a nice pool and hot tub outdoors and some paths to stroll on. I saw more hummingbirds in the yard there than anywhere else I've ever been.

The innkeepers are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and comfortable, all with private entrances and baths. The shower was plenty hot with good pressure, and the room temperature can be easily adjusted. No phones or television in the rooms, although they do have wireless internet service. There is a large screen TV in the main lounge are, which is open to guests all the time if you need your fix of that. There are also snacks, like fruit and candy bars, along with coffee, tea and other drinks available anytime.

The highlight was the breakfast--truly outstanding. It is served at 9 am with all guests seated together. An abundance of food with many choices, and everything was excellent.

We had a very pleasant stay and will definitely try to get back before too long.

Frommer's: "The inn/retreat sits on a long bow of the Jemez River, a small, fast-flowing stream lined with cottonwoods. Built in 1994, the inn has clean lines and comfortable rooms, each named after a Native American tribe. I stayed in the Hopi room, a queen that wasn't large but was well planned, with built-in drawers and many amenities. All rooms have sliding glass doors that open out to a patio where there's a fountain. The beds are comfortably firm, with good reading lights. The Great Room has a cozy welcoming feel, as well as a large table where breakfast is served family-style."
